Willow Mission

Director: Judy Cole

Willow Mission is an outreach ministry of the Dunkirk First United Methodist church. The mission came about after the congregation read the book “Breakfast at Sally’s” which chronicles the events of a man’s life during his two years of homelessness. The church reacted to this book by deciding to reach out to put in place a ministry that would be there to help people in our community who are needy or homeless. The author of the book, Mr. Richard LeMieux visited the Mission in 2009 with his dog, Willow, after whom the mission is named. Willow was Richard’s constant companion offering love and support without judgment; that is the goal of Willow Mission- to reach out with the love of Christ, supporting without judging or condemning.

The mission offers a clothing closet, food pantry, household items garage, laundry facilities, & showers.  All is offered at no cost to those who need it. The Willow Mission also encompasses the Hispanic Ministries of the church as many of our needy come from the Hispanic population.

The mission operates primarily on the gifts, goods and offerings that are donated from the community. The church office is open from 10:00am – 2:00pm Monday and Wednesday and gladly accepts donations of useable household goods, gently used clothing, shelf stable food goods, and monetary donations. If there has been a use for it in your home- we can probably find it a new home!

We encourage community members to stop by for a tour of the facilities and to see what we are offering. Please feel free to mention us to anyone who you think could use our help. There are no criteria other than need!

The church and the Willow Mission are located at 601 Washington Avenue in Dunkirk on the corner of Sixth and Washington. The phone number is 366-2230.
